History
With a history of 85 years, it is important to ensure that Greater Boksburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GBCCI) does not loose its name, or the values that it offers its members and potential members. Yet, still be authentic and move with the times. This has resulted in creating a new identity trading under the banner of Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EACCI).
EACCI is a non-profit organisation serving businesses and the community in the City of Ekurhuleni. As a Chamber we are determined to be relevant to all businesses, to deliver more to all our members, and trust that our members utilise the Chamber’s extensive services in support of their growth.
Purpose
Our purpose is to promote local socio-economic growth and development.
To achieve this, we are constantly looking for ways to create opportunities for businesses and the community to grow and prosper. We are proud of our track record of supporting entrepreneurs, local businesses and the community at large.
Economic growth is important to Ekurhuleni and the country, and this can only be achieved by assisting businesses in several aspects:
- Opening new doors of opportunity to them,
- Ensuring they have the latest business information on hand
- Business linking through our Biz-Link Connect events
- Offer beneficial membership to entrepreneurs and businesses within the area
Aerotropolis
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality encompasses the vast area of the East Rand from Edenvale in the West to Clayville in the North, to Springs in the East and Nigel in the South, with Boksburg situated in the centre – the heart of Ekurhuleni. When we look at the description of an Aerotropolis – it is the metropolitan region in which the infrastructure is centred around an airport.
The OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) lies on the border of Boksburg and Kempton Park and is in the middle of the Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis. An Aerotropolis stretches up to 30km outwards from the airport. This places the greater Gauteng area directly in this zone, and stretches to Tembisa in the north, the outer boundary of Benoni in the east, south beyond the N17 highway in Boksburg and to Sandton in the west. As Africa’s largest and busiest airport OR Tambo International Airport, sees 21 million passengers’ transit annually.
As we observe the development of the huge warehousing district by many freight companies within Kempton Park and Benoni, who are close to OR Tambo International Airport, it is evident that the anticipated growth in the economy is starting to materialise.
The bustling business activities around this strategic airport, together with the 30-year development plan envisaged by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, gives credence to Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce and Industry continuing to assist businesses within the area to grow and prosper.
The newly established OR Tambo International Airport Industrial Development Zone opens new possibilities to stimulating the economy.
